This is one of the most asked information on my channel. It took a long time and now I did not want to wait any longer after seeing comments from our viewers like this
When I first started my tank, my first choice was to go to Kolathur and get all the plants there. My first addition was Cabomba and peacock moss which I added to the rock.
I was looking for better choice and then came across a website from which I ordered rest of the plants. Here is the list of plants I bought, quantity and the price (Jan 18, 2024)
Creating a beautiful and healthy environment for your Betta fish doesn’t have to be expensive. With some creativity and smart choices, you can set up a simple planted aquarium for your Betta fish for under ₹100. Here’s how:
1. Choosing the Container
Budget: ₹0
Tips: Repurpose an old glass jar or container that you already have at home. Look for something that holds at least 2-3 liters of water. Betta fish thrive in small tanks but need enough space to swim comfortably.
2. Substrate and Decorations
Budget: ₹10-20
Tips: Collect small, smooth stones or gravel from your surroundings. Wash them thoroughly to remove any dirt or chemicals. This will act as your substrate, providing a natural look and a place for beneficial bacteria to thrive.
3. Plants
Budget: ₹20-30
Tips: Look for affordable, low-maintenance plants like Anacharis or Duckweed from a local fish store or nearby pond. These plants are usually inexpensive or even free if you know someone with an established aquarium. They help oxygenate the water and create hiding spots for your Betta.
4. Water Conditioner
Budget: ₹20
Tips: Betta fish need dechlorinated water. If you don’t have a water conditioner, let tap water sit out for 24-48 hours to allow chlorine to evaporate naturally. Alternatively, you can buy a small bottle of water conditioner, which can be found in small quantities within your budget.
5. Lighting
Budget: ₹0
Tips: Place the aquarium near a natural light source, but not in direct sunlight to avoid algae growth. If you need artificial light, consider using a small, low-wattage LED light that you already own.
6. Water and Maintenance
Budget: ₹0
Tips: Use clean, room-temperature water. Regular water changes (about 20-30% weekly) will keep the environment healthy for your Betta. This costs nothing but a little time and effort.
Final Thoughts
Setting up a Betta fish-planted aquarium on a tight budget is entirely feasible with some ingenuity. By using recycled materials, sourcing inexpensive plants, and utilizing natural resources, you can create a beautiful, thriving environment for your Betta fish, all for under ₹100. Enjoy your new aquatic companion and the serene beauty of your budget-friendly aquarium!
